Beachwood man is not exactly the ideal guest at his young son’s birthday party

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — A man’s behavior at his son’s birthday party had relatives scrambling for shelter.

At 7:25 p.m. Oct. 16, police were called to The Vantage apartments’ Building 3, 27060 Cedar Road, on a report of a disturbance inside a unit.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the suspect, 29, who lives in the unit with his aunt, 40. Officers immediately smelled the odor of alcohol on the man’s person as he swayed while trying to remain standing.

His aunt told police that they were having a birthday party for the man’s juvenile son when he became irate with other family members.

Those family members attempted to tell the man that he was scaring others, but he proceeded to pick up a wire shopping cart and throw it about the unit, causing the family members to take shelter in the bathroom.

The man admitted to police to having a “couple” of alcoholic beverages and told officers, for unknown reasons, that he would be better at flirting if he had more to drink.

Police offered the man the opportunity to call someone to drive him away from his dismayed relatives, but he decided to contact an acquaintance in Columbus.

He then called his sister, who refused to help him in his drunken state.

Police noted that the man seemed most concerned about getting to his job by his midnight starting time.

After he argued with his sister, police did not believe the man could find a safe way to leave the premises and arrested him on a disorderly conduct charge.
