Typhoon Trami approaches the South China Sea

SANSHA, OCT 24 – Typhoon Trami is gaining strength and is expected to enter the South China Sea tonight, according to meteorological observatories in China’s southernmost island province of Hainan.

The meteorological center is predicting heavy rain and strong winds along the typhoon’s path through Xisha and Zhongsha Islands, which will affect the city of Sansha.

In preparation, fishing boats and other vessels have returned to the harbor for shelter, while buildings in Sansha are reinforced with sandbags.

China’s National Meteorological Center this morning renewed the blue warning for Typhoon Trami, which is now the 20th typhoon of the year.

China uses a four-level emergency response system, with Level I as the most serious response, as well as a four-level color weather warning system, with red as the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. – Xinhua
