BEREA, Ohio — Jameis Winston will have a new left tackle in his first start for the Browns against the Ravens on Sunday, but he’ll have an All-Pro guard back on the field.
With starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee) ruled out for the game, former starting right tackle Dawand Jones, the Browns fourth-round pick in 2023 out of Ohio State, is set to swap sides and make his first career start at left tackle for the Browns.
Coach Kevin Stefanski said he options, but Jones is the next man up.
Jones replaced Jack Conklin at right tackle last year after Conklin suffered a devastating knee injury in the opener, but Jones suffered a torn MCL during a practice in early December and underwent surgery soon thereafter.
Wills also suffered a torn MCL on Nov. 5 against the Cardinals last season, and has still been working his way back from that injury. He’s had a couple of setbacks, including one last week agains the Bengals, and one in his first start against the Giants.
All-Pro right guard Wyatt Teller is also set to return to the field this week. He’s listed as questionable but is expected to play.
Others ruled out are running back Jerome Ford (hamstring), safety Ronnie Hickman (ankle) and linebacker Jordan Hicks (elbow, triceps).
Jones, who told cleveland.com last season that he wants to follow in Joe Thomas’ footsteps at left tackle some day, played some on that side at Ohio State. In 2019, he played 90 snaps at left tackle over four games, and in 2020, he played 80 snaps there with one start at Michigan State.
He lost his right tackle job two games ago when Conklin returned.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson will serve as the backup to Winston.
