MELAKA, 25 OCT – A man pleaded guilty in the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court here today to three charges of using a fake approval letter to obtain state honors.
Mohamad Nizam Abdul Ghani, 46, is alleged to have used as genuine a letter of approval for the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) award in the name of three individuals, where the accused had reason to believe that the document had been forged with the intention of deceiving.
He was accused of committing the three offenses in a house in Taman Paya Rumput Perdana in the Melaka Tengah district at 11:06 pm on 21 September last according to Section 471 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 468 of the Penal Code which can be imprisoned for a maximum of seven years and fined, if found guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib proposed a bail of RM10,000 for each charge, but Kent Tan Chow Teng’s lawyer, who represented the accused, appealed for reasonable bail because his self-employed client has an uncertain income and supports his four children and parents.
The court fixed December 4 for sentencing and allowed the accused to be bailed at RM7,000 with one surety.
Meanwhile, the accused’s friend, Shahrizan Sahauddin, 45, pleaded not guilty to one charge of forging the same document in the name of the three individuals at a similar location and date. Prosecutions are brought under Section 465 of the Penal Code which can be jailed for up to two years or a fine or both, if convicted. – Named
