CKUAmy: Raising funds and shaking buns, B.C. DJ Amy van Keeken returns to her former haunt in support of one of Edmonton’s great community radio stations as it aims to raise a cool million.
This all-vinyl, broadcast-live dance party will include platters from AVK’s personal collection, as well as deep dives into CKUA’s echoing vaults.
She’ll share the turntables with Curtis Ross (a.k.a. Bebop Cortez), Stefan Opryshko of Switches, and Lyle Bell from The Wet Secrets and Overdrive ii Oblivion — that metal mayhem band also playing Dive Bar next Friday, PS.

Juiceboxers launch: As the throbbing literary heart of McCauley, Paper Birch Books is a smartly-curated mix of used and select new tomes — now including co-owner Benjamin Hertwig’s fresh first novel, Juiceboxers.
Set in ’90-’00s Edmonton, its awkward, F-bomber protagonist navigates masculinity, militarism and entrenched racism in a tragicomic story of the inner city.
“I once taught a writing workshop where a fellow veteran said that no one thinks about the war in Afghanistan any more,” explains Hertwig, who served overseas. “Juiceboxers is one of the ways I tried to keep those memories alive. It’s a love letter to Edmonton, yes — but mostly a reminder of a long war that solved nothing and caused all manner of harm.”
Copies for signing available — and there will be snacks, a reading and a Q&A in this warm and friendly nest!
Details: 7 p.m. Monday at Paper Birch Books (10825 95 St.), no charge
Queen Priyanka: Promising “70 minutes of stadium pop-worthy choreography, several costume changes and vignettes in between songs,” this way-beyond-a-drag show concert rides the back of Priyanka’s debut album, Devastatia.
You may remember Priyanka from HBO’s We’re Here, and the album’s title track video where she plays a sparkly kaiju is worth a look.
Do I even need to tell you to dress up for this one?
