LONDON, NOV 27 – Colombia’s president said his country will impose visa requirements on British citizens in response to the United Kingdom (UK) government’s decision to impose visa regulations on Colombian visitors, PA Media reported.
The change, which came into force at 3pm yesterday, means visitors from Colombia will now need a visa to visit the UK.
Colombian nationals will also need to present a transit visa if they need to pass through the UK to travel to another country.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said yesterday that the country will adopt the same rules based on the ‘principle of reciprocity.’
“If the UK reinstates the visa requirement for Colombian citizens, I have to say that according to the principle of reciprocity, the Colombian government will ask for visas from British citizens who want to come to Colombia,” he said in a message on X.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the decision was taken following a ‘significant and continuous increase’ in asylum applications and a ‘high rejection rate’ at the border since November 2022. – Bernama
