SARAJEVO, OCT 25 – A 14-year-old teenager broke into a police station in Bosnia late last night and killed one policeman and injured another, according to the police.
The attack took place in the town of Bosanska Krupa, which is 300 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo, said Ramo Isak, interior minister for the Bosniak-Croat federation, one of the two entities that make up the country.
“One policeman has died while another has been injured,” he said.
The injured policeman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police spokesman Adnan Beganovic told the national broadcaster BHRT
The attacker, who was born in 2009, has been arrested and the prosecution has started an investigation. The motive for the attack is unknown at this time.
“This is something very sad. What surprised us was that it involved a 14-year-old boy who dared to attack police officers at the station. This is a warning signal for our community,” said the district police chief, Adnan Habibija.
Armin Halitovic, the mayor of the small town of 11,000 residents, said the attack had shocked the community, adding, “We are a peaceful and tolerant city.”
Security measures have been stepped up after the attack, police said.
In June last year, a 13-year-old teenager injured a teacher with a gun at a school in northeastern Bosnia.
