RUSSIA, SEPT 10 – A 14-year-old cat from the city of Perm, Russia, had to be rescued after becoming too fat to walk due to overeating. The cat named Kroshik now weighs 17 kilograms (kg), three times the normal weight of an adult cat and his condition has attracted a lot of attention after his picture went viral on Russian social media. VKontakte.

Citing reports Oddity CentralKroshik has long been the unofficial mascot of a local hospital, where he hunts rats and is pampered by the staff. However, in recent years, Kroshik began to rely entirely on human-provided food, causing his weight to skyrocket. When he was no longer able to stand on his feet, the hospital staff contacted the Matroskin animal shelter to rescue him.

According to the shelter, Kroshik is a clear example of how ‘too much pampering’ can be harmful. The cat was given excessive amounts of food and treats by its fans who took turns, causing the cat to stop hunting and rely entirely on the food provided.

After examination, the vet found that Kroshik’s ideal weight should be between five and seven kilograms. Kroshik is currently undergoing a drastic weight loss program, where he is expected to lose between 85 and 170 grams per week until he reaches a normal weight.

In addition to cutting back on calories, Kroshik’s new caretaker also uses a water treadmill in a small bathtub to help him burn calories. Although Kroshik is a bit grumpy and hates water, he has no choice but to comply with the program. It is hoped that Kroshik will recover and be able to walk again in a few months.

Kroshik’s story is reminiscent of a dog named Krugets from Russia who once weighed 100kg due to overeating at a meat market in Nizhny Novgorod. – Agency
