It all began with a great love. In 1989, the now 55-year-old met his great love Anke at an Action Reconciliation Service summer camp in Vogtland. Three years later, he moved to Berlin to study with her. At that time, his girlfriend was already exhausted by everything much more quickly than would be normal. Then, in 1993, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The disease progresses inexorably and his wife has been confined to a wheelchair for over 20 years and is almost completely dependent on assistance with care level 5. Nevertheless, the two married in 2001, and their daughter was born four years earlier.
