A Tribe Called Quest to be honored at tribute event in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Fans of A Tribe Called Quest who can’t wait for the influential hip-hop group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 19 can celebrate the group’s enshrinement from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, October 18, at an “Induction Tribute to A Tribe Called Quest” happening at Tower City Center, 230 West Huron Road Cleveland. Tickets for the celebration are $15 for the “early birds” (until October 5) and $25 for general admission and are available at eventbrite.com.

The celebration will include performances by a trio of area DJs, Mick, Knyce, and ESO spinning classic tunes from the Queens-bred foursome’s six albums along with remixes and features. There will also be a “curated shopping experience” including complimentary cocktails, appetizers and an ATCQ art showcase from area artists.

A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, Jarobi, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and the late Phife Dawg, are the lone hip-hop group to make the cut this year leaving fellow 2024 nominees Eric B & Rakim to wait for another chance in 2025.

The Rock Hall has announced Busta Rhymes will be performing with A Tribe Called Quest at the induction. ATCQ and Rhymes were members of the Native Tongue hip-hop collective back in the ‘90s that included Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Jungle Brothers, and Rhymes’ former group Leaders of the New School. Rhymes was the breakout star of the group and essentially launched his solo career growling like a “dungeon dragon” from his iconic verse on the posse cut “Scenario” from Tribe’s classic album “Low End Theory.”

This year’s show is produced and directed by Joel Gallen and Tenth Planet Productions and streams live on Disney+ Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m. ET. It can also be streamed following the ceremony.

ABC will air a primetime special, “2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” featuring performance highlights and standout moments on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET.

That program will be available the following day on Hulu and Disney+.
