In the U16 election ahead of the state election in Brandenburg, the AfD performed best among children and young people. It received almost 30 percent of the votes. This is according to the final result published by the Berlin “Walter May” Social Pedagogical Institute Foundation. The second strongest force was the SPD with 15 percent, just ahead of the CDU with around 13 percent.

The Animal Protection Party received 12 percent of the vote – but according to the latest polls among those actually eligible to vote, the party has no chance of entering the state parliament. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (8 percent), the Left Party (6.5 percent) and the Greens (5 percent) also managed to get above the 5 percent hurdle in the U16 election.

The SPI Foundation conducted the U16 election among children and young people between September 9 and 13, but the vote is not representative. 4,736 girls and boys under the age of 16 took part. The actual state election, in which young people aged 16 and over are eligible to vote, will take place next Sunday (September 22).

In the latest ZDF Politbarometer Extra by the research group Wahlen, the AfD was at 29 percent, ahead of the SPD at 26 percent, the CDU at 15 percent, and the BSW at 14 percent. In the Brandenburg trend for the ARD by Infratest dimap, the AfD was at 27 percent, just ahead of the SPD at 26 percent, followed by the CDU at 16 percent and the BSW at 13 percent.
