Akron’s Neighborhood Partnership Grant Program offering $150,000 for improvement projects

AKRON, Ohio – Akron City Council will begin accepting applications on Tuesday for its 2024-2025 Neighborhood Partnership Grant Program.

The program offers $150,000 in grants to community groups and organizations for neighborhood improvement projects. Each ward will receive $15,000 total to award to 1-5 eligible projects. Projects should strengthen relationships between neighborhood residents and encourage residents to work together to solve problems that impact them. Examples of eligible projects could include vacant lot cleanups, community gardens, youth literacy/art programs and block safety programs, according to the city.

“Now more than ever, we need to intentionally and collaboratively engage in the development and implementation of practical solutions to the problems we face,” Council President Margo Sommerville said in a news release.

Eligible community groups include nonprofits, block clubs/associations, faith-based organizations, community development corporations and neighborhood-based organizations. Grants will be awarded through a competitive process based on the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility and the availability of funds, according to the city.

View grant application online. City council staff will be available to help applicants with using the online portal. For assistance, call 330-375-2256.

An informational session about the program is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Akron-Summit Public Library, located at 60 S. High St.
