Amazon intends to speed up its delivery service using new technology

Amazon intends to speed up its delivery service using new technology

The company announced on Wednesday that it had added spotlights to its trucks to guide delivery workers to the packages expected to be delivered at each stop along the way.

The technology works by shining a green light on packages so that the delivery worker does not have to waste precious seconds reading customer data cards on them.

She explained Amazon Early next year, it will prepare a thousand delivery trucks using new technology provided by Rivian, an electric car manufacturer.

Amazon and Rivian shares rose about 1 percent each in early trading.

The new system calls to mind a technology widespread in Amazon warehouses that highlights items on shelves with motorized wheels so that workers can select them and place them in boxes.

This system replaced a system under which some workers traveled up to 16 kilometers a day, pushing carts through narrow aisles to find stored items required for delivery.

Shortening the time it takes to deliver each item by a few seconds means Amazon can increase the number of deliveries each worker makes in a shift. Amazon says that delivery workers today reach about 100 customers every day.
