An Uzbek man was convicted of advocating the restoration of the USSR

The court of the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, sentenced a 74-year-old resident of the city to a conditional prison term for propaganda activities for the restoration of the USSR.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was found guilty of calls to violate the constitutional order in Uzbekistan. He was forbidden to use the Internet, to leave the house between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, to change his place of residence and to leave Samarkand for three years.

The man was charged over Telegram posts in which he denounced the legitimacy of the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and collaborated with a pro-Russian Soviet group.
