FC Barcelona and former national coach Hansi Flick continue to race from victory to victory in the Spanish football league. Led by double goalscorer Lamine Yamal, the Blaugrana won 4-1 (2-0) at FC Girona and consolidated their place at the top of the table with the maximum haul of 15 points on the fifth matchday.

The 17-year-old shooting star Yamal, who caused quite a stir during Spain’s European Championship triumph in the summer, scored in the 30th and 37th minutes. Dani Olmo (47th), who moved to Barcelona from RB Leipzig, and midfielder Pedri (64th) added to the score after the break. Only Cristhian Stuani (80th) scored for the surprise third-place finisher of the previous season.

Former Dortmund and ex-Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski failed to score in his 100th competitive match for the Catalans. Before the international break, Barça and Flick had already beaten Real Valladolid 7-0. Next Thursday, Barca will play their first match of the new Champions League season against AS Monaco.
