‘Are they meant to be comedians’

‘Are they meant to be comedians’

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was not amused after “Saturday Night Live” used his infamous feud with his brother and bandmate Noel Gallagher as inspiration for a sketch.

After a fan asked his thoughts on the bit, Liam responded on X: “Excruciating.”

Later in the replies, he added, “I wouldn’t expect anything else from them,” and “Are they meant to be comedians.”

As part of the Weekend Update section of the show, “SNL” cast members Sarah Sherman and James Austin Johnson acted as the brothers, using exaggerated British accents as they teased each other and bickered over who was “cooler.”

But for extra comedic effect, not everything was a disagreement. The skit’s brothers agreed that “Sex and the City” character Mr. Big is a “toxic legend,” and that cartoon favorites like Spongebob Squarepants, Donatello from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and Tommy Pickles from “Rugrats” are “legends.”

All this talk of “legends” ultimately led Sherman to clap back at Liam’s comments on X by responding: “LEGEND 🙌 !!!!!!!!”

The Gallagher brothers were known for their intense and very public disagreements throughout Oasis’ heyday in the 1990s, continuing until 2009, when Noel, main songwriter and lead guitarist, decided he could no longer work with frontman Liam.

Given the infamy of their feuding, Oasis didn’t seem likely to reunite for many years. But in August, the Gallagher brothers announced a 2025 tour, 19 years after the band went on hiatus. According to the bands websiteall North American and United Kingdom dates are sold out.

The tour will mark the 30th anniversary of the band’s second album, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, which includes the hit single “Wonderwall.”
