The club has a long tradition of planting trees in city’s parks and school yards. In 1932, the club planted a Washington Bicentennial Elm tree in the school yard of the current Avon Lake High School. The club has continued the tradition of planting trees in school yards and civic parks throughout the past 92 years, according to information from the club.

This year the club planted one White Swamp Oak (Quercus bicolor) which is a native tree and will grow to a height of over 100 feet. It will also provide food and habtat for small mammals and birds. Two Chestnut Oaks (Quercus prinus), also native trees, were also planted. The trees will provide food for animals and pollen for insects.

The goal of the Avon-on-the-Garden Club is to increase the tree canopy in the city with trees that will benefit the environment and be strong enough to live for many decades.
