BERLIN, SEPT 15 – Bayern Munich continued their perfect start to the season and surged to the top of the Bundesliga after beating newly promoted Holstein Kiel 6-1. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring as early as 15 seconds, making it the third fastest goal in Bundesliga history.

A mistake by Kiel captain Lewis Holtby gave his former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Harry Kane the chance to double Bayern’s lead seven minutes later.

“There was a class difference today,” Holtby told Sky Germany after the match. “It felt like they had an extra player on the pitch, congratulations to Bayern for their excellent performance.”

The home side’s fortunes worsened when another defensive error opened up space for Musiala to cross, and Nicolai Remberg inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.

After only 13 minutes, Bayern was leading 3-0.

Three years after their historic victory against Bayern in the second round of the German Cup, this time Kiel looked nervous and fascinated by the opposition.

Kane added his second goal before the break, while substitute Michael Olise scored the fifth after an hour of play.

Armin Gigovic gave the home fans some joy with a header that netted a consolation goal, but Bayern sealed the win in style when Kane completed his hat-trick with a stoppage-time penalty.

“There are many positives about our game at the moment,” said Bayern captain Manuel Neuer. “We came back with a winning mentality and have started a good momentum now.”

Bayern currently lead the Bundesliga by two points, but Vincent Kompany’s side will focus on their Champions League campaign which begins next Tuesday with a match against Dinamo Zagreb at the Allianz Arena. – AFP
