At the European Road Cycling Championships in Belgium, young rider Niklas Behrens missed out on victory in the U23 race. The 20-year-old was only beaten by Dutchman Huub Artz on the 162-kilometer course between Heusden-Zolder and Hasselt in Belgium. Frenchman Léandre Lozouet came third. For Behrens, who was born in Bremen, it was still the greatest career success. In the women’s race, Hannah Kunz was the best German in twelfth place.

Germany has won a total of five medals after three days of competition. On Saturday the women will compete in the road race. On Sunday the men will fight for the European crown. Nils Politt and John Degenkolb are among those competing for the Germans. Superstars such as Tour winner Tadej Pogacar or the Dane Jonas Vingegaard are not there.
