The Washington Commanders, led by German-American football pro Brandon Coleman, surprisingly won against the Cincinnati Bengals, worsening the hosts’ poor start to the NFL season. The Commanders won 31:26 and handed the Bengals their third loss in three games. Quarterback Jayden Daniels impressed with good decisions in the best game of his young professional career and also benefited from Coleman’s work in the offensive line.
Daniels scored a touchdown on a running play, had two touchdown passes and threw for a total of 254 yards without a single misplaced pass. “Respect to my O-line, respect to my receivers,” said Daniels. 21 of his 23 throws found a teammate.
For the Bengals, quarterback Joe Burrow threw three touchdown passes and initially put his team in the lead – but then the hosts were trailing throughout. The Bengals had started the season with ambitions of reaching the Super Bowl.
Bills take apart Jaguars
Things are going much better for the equally ambitious Buffalo Bills. They beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 47:10, which was never in doubt, and won their third game in three games of the season. The Bills are one of five unbeaten teams in the NFL. Quarterback Josh Allen had four touchdown passes in the first half and was able to relax from the bench as his substitute Mitchell Trubisky brought home the win. “It feels good, I can tell you that,” Allen commented on the performance.
It was also a special game for Damar Hamlin. The Bills pro, who briefly feared for his life after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field 18 months ago, caught a pass from Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. For Hamlin, it was the first interception of his career, and shortly afterwards the Bills scored their third touchdown. For the Jaguars, who were disappointing in every respect, it was the third loss in three games.
