Two former Berlin senators have married. Former finance senator Daniel Wesener and former justice senator Dirk Behrendt tied the knot on Saturday. The two Green politicians have been a couple for a long time. Now their love has been officially sealed.

The wedding was made public by a long-time political companion. “What has lasted 22 years is finally coming to a good end,” wrote former Green Party MP Anja Kofbinger on X. “Congratulations Daniel & Dirk.” She shared a photo of the wedding couple.

Both have been politically active in Berlin for more than two decades in a variety of positions. However, they were not in the Senate at the same time.

The 53-year-old Behrendt was a member of the state government under Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) as Senator for Justice from 2016 to 2021. At that time, Wesener was Parliamentary Secretary of the Green Party in the House of Representatives.

The 48-year-old was Finance Senator in Franziska Giffey’s (SPD) Senate from 2021 to 2023. Today he is a member of parliament again. His husband retired from politics in 2021.
