With a demonstration on the water, the collective Spree:publik wants to protest against the Anchoring ban on large parts of the Spree protest. “We do not want to accept such a far-reaching restriction on water use without any involvement of associations and local initiatives,” says Arik Rohloff, houseboat owner and chairman of the Spree:publik association, an association of art and culture rafts. The association is calling on the federal government to withdraw the regulation.
Since June 1st, a federal regulation has been in force that largely prohibits anchoring on a 35-kilometer stretch of the Spree and mooring outside of approved berths. In some parts, such as Rummelsburg Lake, on the Island of Youth or in the Müggelspree, it is still permitted, but there is a compulsory presence on board. The regulation is valid for three years. It came as a surprise to many. The clubs want participation.
Final rally in front of the Museum Island
“We lack a common round table to tackle existing problems together,” says Christian Doetsch, houseboat owner and member of Spree:publik. A normal life where you go shopping and work is no longer possible.
On Sunday, people on houseboats, rafts, motor and electric boats as well as kayaks and rubber dinghies are called upon to move together from Rummelsburg Bay towards the city center. Although there will be musical accompaniment, it is not a party event, the association emphasizes. The route runs along the Island of Youth to the Spree Canal on the Museum Island.
