A police operation by the Berlin police almost had serious consequences late Friday afternoon. But because of the Reaction speed of the officer at the wheel, a blue light accident resulted only in property damage.

As the police reported on Saturday, a patrol car was on its way to a possible dangerous situation in Prenzlauer Berg at around 5:20 p.m. “The crew switched on the special signals that had been released,” it said. The plural wording suggests that it was both blue lights and sirens. The police did not provide any precise details in their statement.

When the crew turned left from Eberswalder Straße onto Schönhauser Allee, a previously unknown pedestrian crossed the road from the left behind the subway viaduct, it said. The traffic light showed red for him.

In order to avoid a collision, the driver of the patrol car had to steer to the right. Car swerved to the left and crashed into the wall of the elevated railway.

The crew remained unharmed, and the pedestrian who caused the accident left the scene without permission, according to police reports. The emergency vehicle and the wall of the viaduct sustained material damage. (Tsp)
