BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 20 – A total of 260 trees were planted at a tree planting event organized by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, recently.

According to BIBD’s statement, today, the event was held together with Green Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), with support from the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

The tree planting has contributed to the initiative 660 Roots to a Greener Future under BIBD’s environmental project, the Sustainable Environment Project.

The initiative is in line with BIBD’s Sustainability Framework, which reflects the bank’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen.

The Sustainability Framework is designed to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into the core of BIBD’s operations, ensuring that the bank contributes positively to Brunei’s long-term economic, social and environmental goals.

The Sustainable Environment Project is one of the key initiatives under the framework designed to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Project 660 Roots to a Greener Future directly addresses SDG 15: Life on Land, focusing on protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems and promoting sustainable use of natural resources.

In addition to the tree planting initiative, the Sustainable Nature Project is set to expand efforts to address marine and coastal ecosystems in line with SDG 14: Life Under Water.

The next major initiative is the Program Reef Ball BIBD, which offers a unique opportunity for communities to engage with marine ecosystems and contribute to important habitat conservation efforts.

In addition to the Program Reef BallBIBD is also planning a mangrove restoration project to emphasize BIBD’s dedication to restoring and preserving Brunei’s ecosystem diversity, both on land and in the sea.

Launched in May with the inaugural planting of 40 trees at the Golden Jubilee Park, the initiative aims to plant 660 trees across Brunei by the end of the year.

The next phase will see trees planted in Tutong, Belait, and Temburong Districts.
