One front moves out and another is getting ready to move in. Our Thursday will be a day of change with warmer temperatures and a chance for storms.
As the front moves in, afternoon highs will not be too toasty to the northwest. However, record highs will be in jeopardy farther south where there will be 80s and low 90s. Wichita’s record high today is 89 and that is also the forecast high.
Winds are light early this morning but they will turn stronger after sunrise. Gusts could get up to around 35 mph. Some of our strongest winds will be in South Central Kansas where the threat of grassfires will be elevated.
The front will spark some showers and storms later today. We will be on the tail end of this threat during the evening.
Areas near and east of the turnpike will need to be weather aware. Several of our counties close Northeast Kansas are included in a Marginal Risk of severe weather.
The front will continue to advance east through the evening. Storms should move out of the area by the time we head into the overnight.
Have jackets ready before you head out the door tomorrow morning. The front will also start to bring in cooler air. Overnight lows to the northwest will get close to freezing.
Friday afternoon will feel more like fall and this continues Saturday too. Temperatures start to warm back up at the end of the weekend.
Strong south winds early next week draw in more unseasonable warmth as another system approaches. Rain chances and more clouds return the middle of next week.
