BILIF, Menara Syariah discuss the value of Islam in leadership

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 12 – Brunei Institute of Leadership & Islamic Finance (BILIF) in collaboration with Menara Syariah, Indonesia has organized the Islamic Leaders Conference (ILC) 2024 which will take place from September 11 to September 12 at Menara Syariah, PIK2, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The main discussion includes the leadership model of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, with an emphasis on qualities such as justice, compassion, and humility in facing a challenging world, the role of Maqasid Syariah in driving organizational success, women’s leadership, and the secret to the success of chief executive officers.

Thematic conference Leadership and Islam it was attended by participants and professionals from Brunei Darussalam and also from Indonesia.

Among other objectives of the conference is to feature experts from Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia to discuss the principles of leadership in the context of Islamic teachings, with a focus on how Islamic values ​​can guide and shape effective and ethical leadership in a diverse society. In addition, the conference also explores the comparison between Islamic and conventional or western leadership values.

In the conference, the Chairman of Menara Syariah, Harianto Solichin, in his speech emphasized values ​​such as compassion, justice, and unity as the core of Islamic teachings. He also encouraged the participants to work together in improving understanding among diverse communities.

He also touched that the conference was a good opportunity to share strategies and solutions, not only to deal with current issues, but also to empower the youth, improve the well-being of the marginalized, and promote peace and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Senior Deputy Governor of Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, in his keynote speech emphasized the five main principles in economic development and Sharia finance: justice, inclusiveness, cooperation, sustainability, and welfare.

He highlighted the importance of pushing towards justice, expanding access to financial services, strengthening cooperation, prioritizing ethical and sustainable investments, and improving welfare. He also stressed the importance of transformational leadership that adheres to innovation and this includes investment in new technology, application of solutions FinTech Shariah compliance and digitization of financial services.

The conference is supported by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and several leading financial institutions from Indonesia, such as Nanobank Syariah, Bank Jatim Syariah, Bank Syariah Indonesia, BCA Syariah, Aladin Bank Syariah, and Bank BJB as sponsors of the event.

It is also the first collaboration since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between BILIF and PT Fin Centerindo Satu (FIN SATU), the project owner and building manager of Menara Syariah on April 25.

The conference also heard a keynote presentation titled Islamic Values ​​and Indonesian Identity to Advance the Economy and Welfare of the People and Leadership in Bank Syariah Indonesia as well as a panel discussion on Leading Ladies: Glass Ceilings and Broken Rungs and Islamic Leadership – Solution to Modern Leadership Challenges?.

ILC 2024 continues today with various presentations and panel discussions including Maqasid Syariah: Ingredients of Organizational Success?, In the Tradition of the Prophet – Leading with Impact, CEO Conversations: Secrets of Success (SOS), and Leadership by Innovation towards Sustainability and Success.
