BR Volleys “not yet at 100 percent”

The Berlin Volleys were not blinded by their ultimately clear victory at the start of the season in the Volleyball Bundesliga. “It was clear that things weren’t working 100 percent yet,” complained national player Moritz Reichert after the 3:0 (25:16, 26:24, 25:21) home win against the Grizzlys Giesen. But for the 29-year-old, there were also positive aspects beyond the final result. For example: “We work together quite well as a team.”

Managing director Kaweh Niroomand also found room for improvement. “I’m surprised at how many aces we conceded. We can definitely do better in receiving,” he criticized. But when things got tight against Giesen in the second and third sets, the BR Volleys had exactly the players in their ranks who made the difference.

Among them was the 2.10 meter giant Jake Hanes, who rose to become the best attacker with 20 points. “He has enormous power,” said Reichert, praising the American. Niroomand’s impression of newcomer Hanes: “His actions are so unorthodox, we still have to get used to it.”

Olympic participant Reichert also gave the team a lot of support against Giesen. “You can see what he’s capable of. Thanks to him, we have more ball control,” said Niroomand. The next task for the BR Volleys is on Friday: The team will then take on the Volleys Herrsching in a repeat of this year’s cup final, which the Berlin team clearly won 3-0.
