The Berlin Volleys have easily overcome the first hurdle in the league cup of the volleyball national league teams in Hildesheim. The defending champions beat the Baden Volleys Karlsruhe on Friday with a confident 3:0 (25:8, 25:11, 25:18). Daniel Malescha ended the unequal match in front of 425 spectators with the second match point after just 59 minutes. The Berlin team’s opponent in the semi-finals on Saturday (5 p.m.) is the winner of the game between SVG Lüneburg and Volleys Herrsching.

The German record champions demonstrated their qualities impressively against a largely overwhelmed Karlsruhe team, who were eighth in the Bundesliga main round last season. The Berlin national player Johannes Tille carefully directed the setter. The 2.10 meter tall Jake Hanes impressed with powerful attacking moves. Tobias Krick and Florian Krage were also able to collect a number of points from the block.

Even when Berlin’s coach Joel Banks made a few substitutions as the game progressed, his team remained undeterred on its winning path. Given their clear superiority, the capital club only showed minor lapses in concentration in the third set.
