BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 12 – A pandemic is an outbreak of an infectious disease that has spread through the human population across geographical areas globally and occurs when the general population has little or no immunity to emerging or re-emerging pathogens.

“Over the centuries, infectious diseases with different means of transmission have resulted in epidemics, including influenza, cholera and plague,” said Brunei Hotel Association (BAH) President, Awang Mohd Iswandi Maaruf.

Guidelines briefing session monkeypox (mpox), conducted by BAH in the Lecture Hall at The Core, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), today, was attended by representatives from BAH member hotels.

At the briefing session, Awang Mohd Iswandi went on to add that, given the current outbreak of mpox, BAH has held guidelines on mpox as a guide to member hotels on precautionary measures, he added.

“The guidelines for areas exposed to confirmed cases are the same as the checklist guidelines from COVID issued on 17 February 2020, while the protocol version of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) 2021 can also be used as a guideline,” he said.

During the briefing, the focus was on ensuring that the accommodation premises are always clean and tidy and that all rooms, public places or facilities and toilets are well maintained where the members present shared that most of the accommodation premises are occupied by domestic and long-term market guests.

“The guidelines focus on the framework of the hotel’s response to the epidemic with the program covering all employees who are working to carry out corporate and contract work in the hotel, especially those in the hotel’s HSE team,” he explained.
