Brunei participates in the Western Pacific Region health meeting

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 22 OCT – Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin and accompanied by several senior officials of the ministry attended the Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region. -75 which took place in Manila, Republic of the Philippines on October 21 to October 25.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, here, stating that at the opening of the meeting, the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham as the Chairman of the Regional Committee Meeting for the 74th Western Pacific Region gave a speech and reported on the achievements during the period he chaired the committee .

These include the approval of the Asia Pacific Health Security Action Framework (APHSAF), which, the framework practices a multi-faceted, threat and sectoral approach and brings together countries, partners and stakeholders in collective action to strengthen capacity to facilitate the implementation of Regulations- International Health regulations.

The meeting also discussed current health issues, policies, programs and future directions of the WHO for the Western Pacific Region (WPR), including the study of program allocations and the implementation of projects, monitoring the development of health issues and projects- projects according to priorities as well as the coordination of works carried out in the region.

At the 75th Meeting this year, the technical issues highlighted include examining the resilience of health care facilities to climate change, exploring transformative primary health care and methods to strengthen oral health.

In addition, issues of policy, administration and management of health and digital health financing as well as the review of the implementation report of program allocations for the year 2022-2023 and program allocations for the year 2026-2027 and progress reports for other technical programs were also presented.

At the meeting, the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham welcomed the support for the Regional Director’s vision which is Weaving Health for Families, Communities and Societies in the Western Pacific Regionwhich is in line with the Ministry of Health’s new strategic plan by focusing on health care excellence, non-communicable disease prevention and control, and public health protection.

Yang Berhormat Dato recommends that the WHO continue cooperation by providing technical assistance to member countries. The Ministry of Health is also committed to the development of a skilled and quality health workforce, and further welcomes the issue of sustainability and climate sustainability in the WPR’s five-year strategy.

While there, the Honorable Dato had the opportunity to hold bilateral discussions with the Minister of Health Malaysia, the Honorable Datuk Seri Dr Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad and the Secretary of Health of the Republic of the Philippines, the Honorable Dr Teodoro Herbosa, in particular to discuss and exchange views on the development of the health sector in their respective countries. -each and review for the implementation of cooperation in the field of health between the two countries.
