Bundesliga: Bobic on BVB sports director Kehl: “Wouldn’t have stayed”

Former football professional and Bundesliga manager Fredi Bobic has no understanding for Sebastian Kehl’s decision to stay at Borussia Dortmund. “If I were him, I certainly wouldn’t have stayed. For me, it would have been a disregard to put someone above him when it was actually his turn,” said the 52-year-old in a talk show on the Sky channel.

Sporting director Kehl, who was repeatedly subjected to public criticism last season, is seen by many as the loser of the new structure at the club following the appointment of Lars Ricken as sporting director at this year’s Champions League finalists. Kehl is said to have been interested in the position.

Bobic: “Showed that he can take a beating”

Nevertheless, Bobic was impressed by Kehl. “He received endless criticism and still continued to do his job properly,” said the former Bundesliga professional, who won the DFB Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 as sports director. According to Bobic, Kehl always picked himself up. “He showed that he can take a hit and fight back. That impresses me. Personally, I wouldn’t have stayed.”

According to information from “Sport Bild”, Dortmund is considering a contract extension for Kehl. The 44-year-old is currently tied to BVB until next summer.
