Bundesliga: Hamann relativizes Musiala criticism – comparisons with Müller

TV expert Dietmar Hamann has put his criticism of national player Jamal Musiala into perspective. “When you play as a number ten, it is also your job to put other players in the spotlight, as Thomas Müller did with Robert Lewandowski for years. Müller has developed incredibly over the years. Musiala is probably the best dribbler in Europe or the world, but in my opinion the balance is not right at the moment. If he would lift his head up a little more and use his teammates, it would probably help more,” Hamann told the TV channel Sky.

He never questioned that Musiala was an outstanding player. He was only 21 years old. “But you always have to try to develop yourself further,” said Hamann, who had previously described Musiala as an “individual player” and “solo entertainer” in his column. “From Bayern’s point of view,” he would even swap the 21-year-old for Florian Wirtz, who is the same age as Leverkusen – and “right tomorrow.”

The former national player received strong criticism from FC Bayern for these statements. “I find it a bit absurd and far-fetched for anyone who has such an opinion,” said sporting director Christoph Freund before the game against Holstein Kiel: “We at FC Bayern are extremely happy to have such a player with us.”
