Even after his retirement after 124 international matches, Manuel Neuer remains closely connected to the national football team. “It was very nice as a fan. I didn’t have to switch off because I was sad about it. I’m happy for our team when we play well and successfully. I’m a fan of the team again and it was nice to watch the games,” said Neuer after the 6:1 win at Holstein Kiel on the TV channel Sky.
The 2014 world champion ended his career with the national team after the European Championships at home. Neuer said he wished his successor Marc-André ter Stegen “all the best”, but also the other goalkeepers. He would like to visit the national team soon, possibly at the international match against the Netherlands in Munich: “We will see each other as soon as I am back with the national team, if that happens. Then I am looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces.”
