Berlin (dpa/bb) – The national team players of Bundesliga football club 1. FC Union Berlin gradually returned on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, offensive player Woo-Yeong Jeong, who is on loan from VfB Stuttgart, decided not to go on an international trip with South Korea in consultation with national coach Hong Myung-bo.

“There were two games. But the coach knew that I had a new club. I had to move and sort out a lot of things. If I’m in a good mood, I’ll be there again next time,” said Jeong.

Leipzig is the next opponent

By staying in Berlin, Jeong was able to gain almost 70 minutes of match practice last week in a test match against second division club Eintracht Braunschweig (2:2). Now Jeong is looking forward to the difficult task on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) at RB Leipzig.

“Leipzig is a strong team. But we are in a really good mood. Everyone is focused on the game,” said the professional, who is scheduled to play as number eight and number ten. Before his brief Bundesliga debut for Union in the home game against FC St. Pauli (1-0), Woo-Yeong Jeong had already played 111 times for Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart in the top flight since 2011.

No regular player in Stuttgart

Jeong qualified for the Champions League with Stuttgart last season as runner-up. But he was not a regular, especially since he played for South Korea in the Asian Cup in January and early February. “I just wanted to play more, get more time,” said Jeong, explaining his move to Union. He wants to stay as high as possible with the Irons, who are currently in fifth place with four points. Jeong is eyeing qualification for the Europa League.
