Caterpillars in salted eggs, food premises ordered closed

ALOR SETAR, 17 OCT – The Kedah State Health Department (JKN) has ordered a food premises in Sungai Petani that went viral for selling salted eggs containing maggots recently, to be closed immediately.

Kedah Health Director Dr Ismuni Bohari in a statement said the Premises Closure Order was implemented under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.

“JKN Kedah would like to confirm the complaint received via Facebook from Sungai Petani Residents last Tuesday regarding the cleanliness issue of food premises and the discovery of maggots in salted eggs at a food permit in Sungai Petani.

“Verification of the complaint has also been done with the complainant to confirm the incident that has gone viral on social media,” he said. He said the Kuala Muda District Health Office (PKD) conducted further investigations yesterday and found that the premises failed to comply with the hygiene requirements of food premises under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 of the Food Act 1983.

Ismuni said in addition to the closure order, JKN Kedah also issued a compound notice under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 against the premises involved.

He said the re-inspection of the premises will be carried out after the owner can comply with all cleaning instructions and corrective actions directed by PKD Kuala Muda.

“The Kedah JKN will continue to monitor and will always ensure that food premises comply with the Food Regulations under the Food Act 1983 to prevent the same incident from happening again,” he said. – Named
