LUNDU, 8 OCT – The Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg proposed that the name of the Aviation Academy of the Sarawak Technological Excellence Center (CENTEXS) in Lundu be changed to the Aerospace Academy.
He said the name was more appropriate as the academy not only focused on the aviation industry but also covered the space field.
“We cooperate with higher education and our friends outside (the country), for example Turkiye I understand in terms of defense they are very strong (in the field of defense and engineering),” he said when speaking at the launch of the CENTEXS Aviation Academy in Lundu today.
He said the Sarawak government is also working with Airbus and Boeing to strengthen industrial relations and improve the quality of education and training.
“Hopefully we will also have our own satellite. Having a satellite network is for economic purposes so that we can provide valuable data for economic development,” he said.
At the ceremony, Abang Johari also witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between CENTEXS and the Aviation Design Center (ADC) and i-CATS University College.
The MoA exchange aims to strengthen expertise in offering comprehensive talent development initiatives to produce skilled technicians and professionals who can meet the demands of the aviation and aerospace sector. – Named
