The Chairman of the Board of Directors at Broadcasting Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) is giving up its chairmanship completely unexpectedly. The board office of the public broadcaster ARD confirmed to the German Press Agency that Benjamin Ehlers has given up the chairmanship with immediate effect – he will also remain a member of the administrative board. The “Bild” newspaper was the first to report.
The committee’s office did not want to comment on the reasons. Recently, there had been repeated discussions in the broadcaster’s supervisory bodies about how to deal with another board member and her relationship with the broadcaster.
Succession is still unclear
It is unclear who will now head the board of directors. A regular meeting of the supervisory board is planned for Wednesday in Potsdam.
The new RBB Administrative Board was constituted in April 2023. Like the second supervisory body, the Broadcasting Council, it wanted to bring stability back to the company after the RBB scandal involving allegations of waste and nepotism at the top of the station. At their constitutive meeting, the new members had appointed Cottbus lawyer Ehlers as chairman. Dagmar Tille, who headed the highest monument protection authority in Berlin, was elected deputy chairwoman. The Administrative Board monitors the activities of the director general, especially in budgetary matters. (dpa)
