Child's prank leads to traffic stop in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW) — A child’s prank led to a search for a possible kidnapper in Butler County Wednesday.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office says multiple deputies responded to Highway 54, just east of Andover, on the report of a possible abduction. Someone had called 911 after seeing a car with “Help” written on the back window.

Deputies found the car in Augusta and pulled the driver over. Once stopped, they learned that a child in the car had written “Help” in the dirt on the back window as a prank, and there was no danger.

Deputies determined everything was okay, and the driver was released.
