China called for empowering women at the G20 ministerial meeting

BRASILIA, OCT 14 – A Chinese official urged all countries to use science and technology to empower women and fully protect women’s rights and interests.

Huang Xiaowei, deputy head of the State Council’s National Working Committee on Children and Women, made the statement during the G20 Women’s Empowerment Ministerial Meeting.

He also called for strengthening international exchange and cooperation in reducing poverty among women, education, digital economy and ecological protection, and continue to work to promote the building of future communities with the same goal.

During the meeting, Huang who is also the vice president of the All China Women’s Federation, announced a new spirit and pointed out that China’s modernization under the guidance of President Xi Jinping, has opened a new realm for women’s development.

He also held discussions and exchanges with representatives from 12 countries including Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Indonesia, as well as international organizations. All parties greatly appreciate China’s achievements in women’s struggle, and express their willingness to deepen cooperation and create a better future.

During his meeting with Brazil’s First Lady Rosangela da Silva, Huang said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Brazil cooperation has borne fruit and the foundation of women’s friendship has become stronger.

Huang also briefed Rosangela on the promotion of women’s comprehensive development and China’s global cooperation in women’s efforts, as well as China’s Spring Bud Project, which won the UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women’s Education.

He expressed his willingness to take the 30th anniversary commemoration of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing as an opportunity to encourage greater development in exchange and cooperation between women of the two countries.

Representatives of G20 member countries, guest countries and international organizations attended a ministerial meeting organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Women that discussed women’s economic autonomy, the elimination of violence against women, climate action and various other topics. – Xinhua
