NEW YORK, SEPT 11 – Boeing delivered nine 737 MAX planes to Chinese airlines last August, the most since December 2018 before the plane was grounded for a long period following two fatal accidents, according to figures released yesterday.
China was the last country to approve the MAX to resume service after more than a year and a half of downtime after it was taken out of service following crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed 346 lives.
Boeing began resuming deliveries to China in January 2024.
Boeing delivered a total of 32 aircraft in August, bringing total aircraft deliveries to 40 for the month, up from 35 aircraft last year.
Low-cost airline, Irish Ryanair, also received the most number of six. The company’s chief executive officer, Michael O’Leary, complained that delayed deliveries had cost the company millions in ticket sales.
Other companies that receive MAX aircraft include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. During the first eight months of 2024, Boeing has delivered 258 aircraft, including 198 MAX aircraft. – AFP
