‘Cicak’ involved in 22 burglary cases arrested

MELAKA, 23 OCT – A man known as ‘Cicak’ was arrested on suspicion of being involved in 22 burglaries around Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah since the beginning of this year.

Melaka Deputy Police Chief Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi said the 42-year-old man believed to have committed the crime alone was arrested in a hotel room in Angkasa Nuri here at about 4:20 pm on 16 October.

He said the police also confiscated items including jewelry such as rings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets as well as various types of mobile phones, branded clothes and motorcycles estimated to be worth RM150,000.

“The suspect known as ‘Cicak’ targeted an unoccupied house before breaking into the premises and stealing various valuables.

“Based on records, the suspect committed the crime of housebreaking in the vicinity of Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah and so far, a total of 22 houses are believed to have been broken into by the man involved,” he said in a statement today.

Md Nazri said the police also seized a black bag containing a transparent plastic containing a piece of crystal believed to be syabu type drug weighing an estimated 5.34 grams.

He said a urine test conducted on the man found the suspect positive for drugs methamphetaminein addition to also having 14 past criminal records including 10 burglary cases.

The suspect was remanded for 10 days until this Friday (Oct 25) to assist further investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code for committing housebreaking and if convicted could be jailed for a maximum of 14 years in addition to fines and whipping, he said. – Named
