Civil servants are called to be more responsive, competitive

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 30 SEPT – The theme of the Public Service Day (HPA) celebration is Empowerment and Unity of Public Service, Catalyst of National Prosperitycontinues to be relevant in facing various issues including challenges and opportunities brought by digital technology.

In addition, it is also synonymous with the state of society today which has high expectations for the quality and speed as well as the effectiveness of the services they receive.

“Thus, public service people need to continue to innovate to meet increasingly complex needs. With a culture of innovation, will be able to form a more responsive and competitive Public Service, thereby building public trust in public institutions.”

The call was made by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and the Second Minister of Defense, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (B) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof in his welcome speech at the 31st HPA Summit, 2024 which took place at the Plenary Hall, International Conference Center, Berakas, today.

He said that innovation is also at the core of good governance principles, especially when it is linked to an approach based on artificial intelligence (AI).

Yang Berhormat Pehin further prayed that in the forum in conjunction with the Meeting ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters (ACCSM) 22nd chaired by Brunei Darussalam, recently, discussed the potential integration of AI in the public sector.

“This allows for a more strategic work focus through automation as well as re-evaluation of the public sector’s capabilities through real-time insights to increase transparency, responsibility and public confidence.”

In addition, every civil servant needs to prioritize the development of skills and the improvement of knowledge to adapt to the needs of current changes and reforms in a dynamic and resilient public administration.

“In this direction, the newly introduced Human Services Scheme will also help ensure the development of skills and optimal use of human resources,” said Yang Berhormat Pehin.

He also stated that in the ACCSM Meeting, a joint statement was also issued to strengthen the ASEAN strategy in mental health and well-being. It aims to achieve a balance between the work and life of civil servants.
