Cleveland man wanted for attacking police officer arrested near Shell station in Brook Park

BROOK PARK, Ohio – A Cleveland man wanted for attacking a police officer was arrested at about 8 p.m. Sept. 20 near Shell, 13030 Brookpark.

Police saw the man’s Ford F-150 pickup truck in the Shell parking lot. They checked the truck’s license-plate number and learned that the man was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for felonious assault.

Several additional warrants had been issued for the man’s arrest. Police recognized the man. In 2023, he had intentionally rammed his truck into a Brook Park police cruiser and driven away.

A police officer parked his cruiser in front of the man’s truck to prevent him from leaving. The officer hurried out of the cruiser, pointed his firearm at the man and ordered him out of the truck.

The man stepped out of the truck but started walking away. Police ordered the man to stop, telling him that he was wanted.

The man said it was his brother that the sheriff’s office was after, not him. He walked northbound on West 130th Street, leaving a woman passenger behind in his truck.

The officer asked dispatch for assistance. He jumped back into his cruiser and drove northbound on West 130th. The man started running.

The officer stopped his cruiser and ran after the man, who turned around and told the officer, “It’s not me.”

The officer grabbed the man’s arms and pinned him against a pillar under the Interstate 480 bridge over West 130th. The man scratched the officer’s arm. The officer wrestled him to the ground, turned him onto his stomach and placed him in handcuffs.

The man said, “Please don’t take me.” He admitted his true identity and said he was going through withdrawals from drugs.

The man started hyperventilating and gagging as police sat him in a cruiser. He was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights.

The officer who wrestled with the man sustained several cuts on one arm. Police later learned the man had tested positive for hepatitis C.
