CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio dropped sharply again in the last week, with the state reporting 4,219 new cases on Thursday, down from 6,103 the previous week.
Cases had risen for 13 consecutive weeks, peaking at 10,418 the last week of August.
Lately, the trend has been a sharp decline, with 10,315 cases reported on Sept. 12, 8,391 on Sept. 19 and 6,103 on Sept. 26.
At least 391,903 Ohioans have received the new 2024-2025 updated COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 107,358 people from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 3.35% of the state’s population.
The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has reached 3,846,815.

There were 158 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 154,535. A total of six people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,914.
The state health department reported an additional 41 deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,290. Death reporting sometimes lags by weeks.
