The closure of the important traffic artery had caused permanent traffic jams in the city center since mid-July – and even when it was reopened on Monday (September 2nd), not everything went smoothly: The intersection of Alleestraße/Friedrich-Ebert-Straße/Reiterweg should actually have been opened to rush hour traffic early in the morning, but the closure signs were still up in the morning.

As was the case at the start of the construction site The problem was due to the signage, explained Stefan Klotz, spokesman for the transport company, to the PNN when asked: “In principle, it was possible to drive through the area from 5.30 a.m., but some signs and crossbars were still in place.” They were then removed by midday. According to the spokesman, bus line 603, which runs on the route, had already been running on its usual route since 10.30 a.m.

This means that the important connection between Behlertstrasse and Bundesstrasse 2 in a northerly direction is now open again. The closure was necessary because the transport company was renewing the tram tracks in the intersection area. The full closure of Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse directly in front of the intersection will remain in place until the beginning of November for further work on the tram tracks and stops.
