EUGENE, Ore. — Quarterback Will Howard scored on Ohio State football’s opening drive against Oregon. However, the drive came with controversy.
On a first down play near midfield, Howard launched a 32-yard pass to tight end Will Kacmarek. After a battle for the ball on the field, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa emerged with what the home faithful thought was an interception.
However, officials on the field ruled the ball was caught and Kacmarek was down before it was ripped away by Bassa.

The play was not reviewed. Three plays later, Howard scored on a one-yard rush.
Following a commercial break on the NBC broadcast, rules analyst Terry McAulay said he was surprised the play wasn’t reviewed.
He believed Kacmarek never had possession of the ball, and after the battle for it, Bassa was the first one with control — deeming it should have been an interception.
