COLUMBUS, Ohio — Oregon fans stormed the field at Autzen Stadium on Saturday after the Ducks’ 32-31 win against Ohio State football.
The celebration won’t cost Oregon, though.
Since it was the Ducks’ first offense of the Big Ten’s security policy, only a private reprimand was required.
“The safety and security of student-athletes, coaches and staff is of upmost importance,” a Big Ten spokesperson said in a statement to cleveland.com. “The Big Ten requires host institutions to provide adequate security for visiting teams from their arrival for a game through their departure.
“If adequate security is not provided, there is a process in place that begins with a private reprimand for the first offense, public reprimand for second offense, and the discretion to implement a fine plus additional penalties for a third offense. We routinely review our policy as needed to ensure a safe environment for everyone.”
An identical statement was issued after Minnesota fans stormed the field to celebrate an Oct. 5 home win against Southern California.
Conferences across the NCAA have varying policies.
The SEC fines schools $100,000 for the first offense.
LSU was fined $250,000 after its fans stormed the field following an overtime win against Ole Miss on Saturday.
