Discuss the importance of TVET, human resource skills

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 13 SEPT – The Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh attended the World Skills Conference 2024 which took place from 10 to 12 September at Eurexpo Lyon, Republic of France.

The conference held in conjunction with the 47th World Skills Competition was held from 11 to 15 September, with the theme Moving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to the Top of the Global Agenda.

The conference discussed the importance of TVET and skills in the development of human resources and the economy.

During the conference, the Honorable Minister of Education also had the opportunity to hold a meeting with the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, the Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs, Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Dr Mohammad Maliki bin Osman, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the field of education between the two two countries.

In addition, the Honorable Minister of Education also visited the 47th World Skills Competition which is the largest skills competition in the world organized every two years by WorldSkills International (WSI).

The opening session of the conference began with speeches from the Minister of Labour, Health and Solidarity, Republic of France, Her Excellency Catherine Vautrin; Minister of National Education and Youth, Republic of France, Her Excellency Nicole Belloubet and WSI President, Chris Humphries, who among others called on stakeholders in the TVET field to explore strategies to move the global TVET agenda forward and strengthen the TVET system.

The conference was filled with several panel discussion sessions and round tables on related topics such as How Do We Create Excellence in TVET System; Tools and Strategies Required for Quality Assurance in TVET, Foundational Skills for Better TVET and so on.

The conference was attended by ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials from around the world together with representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the European Commission (EC ), African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), WSI and WorldSkills Champions Trust (WSCT).

In addition, it was also attended by 1,500 from 65 countries competing in 62 skills across six sectors including construction, industry, new technology, services, food and creative professions, digital and hospitality.

The Honorable Minister of Education was accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman and officials from the Ministry of Education.
