Elyria police release ID of 9-year-old boy killed while riding bike

ELYRIA, Ohio — The identity of a 9-year-old boy who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike has been released by police.

Bryant Tide Bartlett was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Saturday evening on the 100 block of Burns Road, according to a news release. A second boy, Aiden Helland, 10, remains in critical but stable condition at Rainbows and Babies Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.

Police say the incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday. A Jeep SUV reportedly was driving east on Burns Road and was trying to maneuver past the two boys, who were riding their bikes on the road. Police say the bicyclists suddenly changed direction as the Jeep passed and collided with the vehicle.

The 20-year-old driver of the Jeep was not injured. The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors at this time.
