'Everyone can do something': People show support for foster children at Open Streets ICT

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — People at Open Streets ICT on Sunday demonstrated support for the hundreds of foster children in the Sedgwick County foster care system.

During the Unity Moment for Foster Kids, more than a hundred people gathered, some with signs demonstrating support for foster kids. Care for Every Family put together the moment to send a message to foster children that they are not forgotten.

Another goal was to bring awareness to the need for help in the foster care industry.

“Everyone can do something, and that’s what we want to encourage people with the Care for Everyone movement, is that there is room for everyone to do something,” said Jason Cho, a spokesperson for Care for Every Family.

Cho said there are many ways for people to help, even just by stepping in to offer help to struggling families so their kids don’t have to go through foster care.

Being a foster parent isn’t for everyone, but Cho said helping families keep their kids helps prevent the foster system from being overwhelmed.
